Frequently Asked Questions
Can I recover from an eating disorder?Yes, eating disorders can be treated. Eating disorders need to be treated at many levels: physically, psychologically, spiritually and nutritionally. These disorders are complex and the recovery needs to be multi dimensional and tailored to the specific needs of each individual. When an individual has a commitment to recovery and a comprehensive treatment plan is implemented recovery does happen.
What type of therapy do you provide?
My approach to treatment is multidimensional and tailored to the specific needs of each individual. In general I use cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic and interpersonal approaches to therapy. Family therapy and group therapy are available when appropriate. I also work closely with the patient’s medical doctor to monitor any medical complications.
Do you run any groups?
Yes, I run a weekly eating disorder group for individuals who are also in individual therapy. Group therapy is an important adjunct to treatment and individuals find the support they get from others invaluable.
How do I begin the process of recovery?
Contact me for an assessment. We will look at the history of your eating disorder and other personal history. Together we will set treatment goals and design a program of recovery that best meets your needs.
Do you treat any other conditions?
Yes, in addition to being an eating disorder specialist I am a licensed marriage and family therapist. I treat depression, anxiety, OCD, trauma, abuse issues, substance abuse and couples and family issues.
